Breast Augmentation With Fat Transfer

Many women desire larger and fuller breasts. For years, plastic surgeons only used implants to enhance breast shape and volume, but there is an alternative breast augmentation option.

Dr. D’Amore offers breast augmentation with fat transfer (fat grafting) to provide women with breast enhancement. This procedure, also known as natural breast augmentation, takes excess fat from the patient’s body and transfers it to enlarge and reshape the breasts.

Breast fat transfer allows for enhanced, natural-looking breasts while slimming other areas of the body.

Am I a Candidate for Breast Augmentation With Fat Transfer?

You may be a candidate for fat grafting breast enhancement if you are in generally good health, have realistic expectations of your results, and have fat deposits available in other areas of the body.

Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Is Beneficial for Patients Who:

  • Want a modest increase in breast size
  • Wish to improve the shape of their breasts
  • Have enough excess fat in other areas of their body
    • Patients should not gain weight in anticipation of fat transfer because if they lose weight, the fat in the breasts will decrease
  • Would like to improve their breast symmetry
  • Currently have implants but are experiencing problems
  • Would like to remove their implants but maintain some volume enhancement

What Are the Advantages of Fat Transfer vs. Breast Implants?

Breast Implants

Breast implants are not considered lifetime devices, meaning that women who undergo breast augmentation with implants will likely need a subsequent breast surgery at some point in their life. A second surgery may be necessary to remove or replace the implants, whether due to aging and cosmetic concerns or implant complications. Complications include capsular contracture, implant rupture, and breast implant illness.

Breast Fat Transfer

Breast augmentation with fat transfer provides long-lasting, natural-looking results. The grafted fat feels just like natural tissue in the breasts. This breast enlargement option does not come with the risk of complications associated with implants that would require additional surgery.

It also has the benefit of virtually no scarring on the breasts and body where the fat is removed. Another advantage is the contour improvement in the area where the fat is obtained (for example, the “love handles” can be reduced).

What Are the Disadvantages of Fat Transfer vs. Breast Implants?

A disadvantage of fat transfer to the breasts is that only a natural augmentation of approximately one cup size can be obtained. If you are looking to have very large breasts and more of an “implant look” rather than a natural shape, you are probably not a good candidate for breast fat transfer.

How Is Breast Augmentation With Fat Transfer Performed?

Breast augmentation with fat transfer is done using light general anesthesia to keep you comfortable.

Excess fat is removed from the flanks or abdomen using liposuction techniques. The fat is decanted and purified before being injected into the breast tissue using tiny cannulas and very small incisions. Multiple passes are done to ensure the individual fat cells will receive enough blood supply and take as a graft.

How Much Fat Is Absorbed by the Body After Transfer?

Not all of the transferred fat will survive as grafts in the breasts. Typically, about 60 percent of the fat transferred will take as a graft; the body will naturally absorb and eliminate the rest. Dr. D’Amore takes this into account when determining how much fat to transfer.

Can Other Procedures Be Performed With Breast Fat Transfer?

Many women undergoing breast augmentation with fat transfer are interested in improving other areas of their body as well.

Fat grafting to the breasts can be performed in combination with:

How Long Does It Take to Recover From Fat Transfer to the Breasts?

Recovery from breast augmentation with fat transfer is minimal. Patients will only need to take a few days off from work and other normal activities, and they can resume exercise in 10 to 14 days.

A follow-up appointment with Dr. D’Amore will be scheduled for three days after your procedure.

Are the Results of Breast Fat Transfer Permanent?

Fat transfer to the breasts generally provides permanent results. However, weight fluctuations can alter your results because the transferred fat will behave as regular fat. It will increase in size if you gain weight and decrease with weight loss.

Maintaining a stable, healthy weight is the best way to ensure long-lasting fat transfer results.

How Much Does Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Cost?

The cost of breast augmentation with fat transfer will depend on the extent of your procedure and your individual needs.

At your consultation, Dr. D’Amore will assess if you are a good candidate for the procedure and answer any questions you may have. His staff will then give you your specific breast fat transfer cost and show you fat transfer breast augmentation before and after photos.
