Nasal Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
Many men and women have nasal imperfections, such as asymmetry, a dorsal hump, wide nostrils, or a displeasing tip. Additionally, nasal flaws can aesthetically distract from other facial features. However, rhinoplasty, or nasal surgery, can reshape and enhance the appearance of a patient’s nose to create better facial harmony.
Candidates
Ideal candidates for rhinoplasty must be in good physical health and have realistic expectations. For ideal candidates, rhinoplasty can correct one or more of the following issues:
- Wide nostrils
- Humps or depressions on the bridge of the nose
- Boxy or wide tip
- Hanging nose
Consultation
During your consultation, Dr. D’Amore will take time to fully understand your desire regarding the size and shape of your nose. Patients interested in undergoing rhinoplasty must be at least 16 years of age. Our patient coordinator will also gladly show you our large library of pre- and postoperative photographs.
Procedure
Rhinoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis in our fully accredited surgery center, the Pacific Surgery Center, using general anesthesia. Dr. D’Amore will make incisions inside the nose. Occasionally he makes a small incision between the narices to perform an open rhinoplasty. After making the incisions, he will sculpt the nose by altering the nasal cartilages and possibly the nasal bones. He will drape the nasal skin and tissue back over the nose and then close the incision with sutures.
Recovery
Following your rhinoplasty procedure, a splint may be used to protect your new nose for five to seven days. Packing is usually not used. Dr. D’Amore will provide you with specific instructions to follow on how to care for the treated area and when to follow up with him. Swelling and bruising will occur but should resolve within two to three weeks. Medication will also be administered to help minimize any pain or discomfort. Patients should be able to return to normal activities after a few days.
Cost
The total cost for rhinoplasty may vary depending on the extent of time and correction needed to achieve your aesthetic goals. During your consultation, Dr. D’Amore will provide you with a detailed cost sheet.
Results
Rhinoplasty can provide a balanced and pleasing look to your face. Your final results will become more apparent three months following your rhinoplasty procedure, and patients can expect permanent results after 12 months.
