Eyelid and Brow Lift

While various areas are affected by the aging process in different ways, the upper portion of the face tends to have the biggest effect on our overall appearance. To eliminate conditions such as wrinkles, eyelid bags, and sagging skin from these regions and restore a youthful facial appearance, Dr. Tancredi D’Amore regularly performs the following procedures:

  • Eyelid Lift
  • Browpexy

While these procedures can be performed separately, they are often performed in conjunction with one another to achieve a more complete facial rejuvenation.

Candidates for eyelid lift and forehead lift surgery typically have one or more of the following conditions:

  • Hooding in the upper eyelids
  • Sagging eyelid skin
  • Puffy eyelids
  • Bags beneath the eyes
  • A descent of lateral eyebrows
  • Low upper eyelids giving the impression of “sleepy” eyes

During your personalized consultation, Dr. D’Amore will meet with you to discuss your desires and gain a thorough understanding of your aesthetic goals. After reviewing your medical history and any medications you currently are taking, Dr. D’Amore will conduct a physical evaluation of your face and particularly the eyes to determine the best procedure(s) for you.

Eyelid lift surgery is performed on an outpatient basis with the patient under light anesthesia. To conceal scarring, tiny incisions are made along the natural crease of the upper eyelids. Dr. D’Amore removes excess skin and fat deposits are removed, tightens the small eyelid muscles if necessary, and then closes the incisions with very fine sutures.

Often, the lateral aspect of the eyebrow descends during the aging process, producing lateral hooding and a sad expression. Dr. D’Amore has been extremely satisfied with the results he has obtained by a procedure called a browpexy, where the lateral aspect of the eyebrow is repositioned in a minimally invasive fashion.

During the eyelid lift, the lateral aspect of the eyebrow is gently lifted and sutured on the inside in a higher position through the same incision. This approach avoids any scalp incisions and also avoids the surprised look caused by highly placed eyebrows often seen after other types of brow lifts. The recovery time is not prolonged. Dr. D’Amore has extensive experience with this procedure and has lectured at national meetings reporting his experience.

Typically, lower eyelid bags are treated by making a small incision under the lashes. The fat causing the bags is gently removed or transferred to correct the tear trough depression. The lower eyelid can be tightened if necessary by performing a lateral canthopexy, then the excess skin is excised and sutured with fine sutures. If no skin excision is necessary, the procedure can be done from the inside of the eyelids with no visible scars.

An eyelid lift typically takes about one week of downtime before work can be resumed. Non-strenuous daily activities can be resumed after three days.

The total amount of an eyelid lift varies between patients, depending on the amount of improvement needed. During a personalized consultation, our patient coordinator will provide you with a detailed cost sheet.
